Most commercial moped fleets in the UK are still running vehicles that were never designed for commercial duty. Stamped-steel commuter scooters, repurposed for delivery work, can do the job – but they pay for it in maintenance bills, panel flex, and shortened service life. The Benzina Zero Duo and Duo+ take a fundamentally different approach: a vehicle engineered from the frame outwards for the realities of urban delivery.
In our latest video, we put these purpose-built electric mopeds through their paces in a real-world UK setting. We showcase the twin tubular steel frame allow cargo boxes, racks, and panniers to bolt directly to the structural chassis rather than to fragile body panels – the detail that makes the Duo so much more capable than a conventional scooter when it’s loaded up day after day. We also discuss the swappable battery, and put both models through low-speed manoeuvring to illustrate the handling benefits of the shorter 1,210 mm wheelbase and floor-level battery position.
The difference between the two models comes down to a single, simple question of speed and licence category. The Duo is a 50cc-equivalent electric moped with a 27 mph top speed and around 65 miles of range. The Duo+ uses the same chassis and accessory ecosystem but fits an uprated Bosch motor and an upgraded combined braking system (CBS), lifting the top speed to 40 mph for a 60-mile range. Both share the structural advantages – the lighter, stiffer frame, the electrophoretic dip-coat corrosion protection, the direct-to-frame mounting points, and the low centre of gravity – that translate, in commercial use, into lower running costs, fewer breakdowns, easier maintenance, and longer vehicle life.
